In yet another display of appreciation for those supporters of the team, the Miami Dolphins surprised the employees of City Furniture in Tamarac and their 2012 Special Teams Volunteer Captain award winner with separate visits.

Pro Bowl long snapper John Denney was joined by T.D. the Mascot and two Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders in brightening the day of these loyal fans. They first turned the employee café at City Furniture’s corporate headquarters and outlet into a virtual game day experience, posing for pictures, signing autographs and mingling with the corporate suite holders. T.D. even played a little ping-pong with some of them. Among those pleasantly surprised were Jeremy Massey, a customer service team leader and longtime season ticket member.

“I’ve been a season ticket member since 1999 so to come down here and see the cheerleaders and John Denney and T.D. and get an autograph was cool,” Massey said. “It means a lot and it means that the Dolphins are reaching out to the community, which they do a lot, and it’s always cool to see the players and the cheerleaders.”

Denney recently returned from Hawaii where he represented the Dolphins in the Pro Bowl along with defensive end Cameron Wake, defensive tackle Randy Starks and guard Richie Incognito. He is a regular on the community circuit making visits for the team but this was a new experience for him.

“It’s always fun to be a part of something like this where you can surprise someone and see their appreciation,” Denney said. “We wouldn’t be here without the fans so this is definitely a show of appreciation to them. We can’t get to all of them but we do our best to try and reach out and show our gratitude as much as we can.”

Just a few minutes down the road from City Furniture was the group’s second stop, the American Cancer Society in Fort Lauderdale. Shelly Beck was going about her daily routine taking care of paperwork for one of the charity fundraisers she oversees when she was taken by surprise by Denney and company.

Having been a volunteer for the Special Teams since 2010, Beck wasn’t expecting anything like this because she already was a diehard Dolphins fan and season ticket member for many years and didn’t need anything in return. Still, when the large entourage made their way down the hall, Beck couldn’t have been any happier.

“I was floored really,” Beck said. “It was just unbelievable and I was wondering what was going on and why were they doing this for me? I’m a volunteer and I love volunteering and I do it because it’s from my heart. I’ll volunteer as much as I can and as often as I can and it’s not to get rewards, but they’re nice. This is a little bit over the top I think and all I was expecting was a ballcap.”

This is the fourth surprise visit the Dolphins have successfully done and there are more planned as part of the organization’s commitment to reward its season ticket members.
