“It was an extremely positive message. I know our kids, teachers and staff definitely walked away uplifted today,” Kenwood K-8 Center Principal Moraima Almeida-Perez said. “It’s just a reminder that staying healthy should be part of life. It’s good to remember that a balanced child is so important. As the Dolphins say, 60 minutes of exercise a day is crucial.”
The JTC kicked off with Twan Russell, Director of Youth Programs, speaking to the students about being Dol-Fit, which stresses a healthy lifestyle through education, physical fitness and making positive choices.
The students were then treated to a multitude of football drills, including throwing, catching and running in between pads.
“The students, faculty and staff at Kenwood were outstanding today,” Russell said. “Teaching children about physical fitness is so important because it allows them to think clearly and make positive choices.”
Kenwood K-8 Center, founded in 1928, serves just over 1,000 students and participates in Dade County’s healthy meal program, where they provide healthy options for breakfast and lunch on a daily basis.
