In recent years the Club Level at Sun Life Stadium has played host to Super Bowl XLIV Media Day and Don Shula’s 80th birthday party, but Thursday afternoon and evening the business world took over the vast space.
The Dolphins Business Alliance hosted the first of four trade shows designed to bring together business leaders, corporate partners, vendors/suppliers, suite holders, club seat and season ticket holders. There were 72 exhibitor booths on the Club Level, while on the ground floor in the Ford Sideline Club & Lounge breakout workshops focused on the use of Social Media to increase brand awareness and on networking and building business took place.
“It’s a great kickoff to the Dolphins Business Alliance,” Dolphins CEO Mike Dee said. “That which can be measured will be improved and we’ve got a lot to work on, but we had a great enthusiastic response from many of our vendors, suite holders, season ticket members and corporate partners. It was a great reflection upon how we can rally the community together because this was not just Miami-Dade County, not just Broward County but all of South Florida.”
At the end of the trade show those who stuck around after the booths were broken down were treated to a special moment inside the Ford Sideline Club & Lounge. Former Dolphins linebacker Bob Brudzinski became the first Dolphins Business Alliance Honoree and was presented with the award in recognition of his successful Bru’s Room Sports Grill franchise by Vice President/Special Advisor Nat Moore.
Brudzinski, who registered 14.5 sacks and nine interceptions in 125 games (94 starts) from 1981-89 for the Dolphins, has opened 10 restaurants around South Florida. They have become the place to go to enjoy tasty chicken wings and other sports fare while watching college and NFL football and other big sporting events. His success inspired other former Dolphins like Kim Bokamper and John Offerdahl to launch successful food businesses.
“It’s really a big surprise because there are a lot of guys that have come through here and some of them are pretty good business guys,” Brudzinski said. “To be the actual first one is pretty cool and I’m very honored. There are a lot of parallels between football and business and it’s pretty easy to implement them. If you can implement the things that you learned from football it makes a big difference and makes it a lot easier.”
That’s just one of the lessons learned at the DBA Trade show and something to build on for the next three.
