Starks has racked up 22 sacks since joining the Dolphins as a free agent prior to the 2008 season, including 4.5 last year while transitioning to an interior lineman in defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle’s 4-3 scheme. He also had an interception and four pass breakups to go along with 27 tackles (18 solo), which is why Dolphins General Manager Jeff Ireland made Starks a priority in his approach to this offseason.
“Well, it’s very important to have Randy back if we could get it done,” said Ireland 10 days ago whole talking to he media at the 2013 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. “I’m not really worried about where we’re playing (Jared) Odrick, the fact of the matter is we have a very good defensive line and keeping that intact is a focus of mine. It’s a strength and to continue to build the strength is a focus of mine. I don’t want to let that strength become just average. I like where it’s at and keeping that a mainstay is important to me.”

“We haven’t even reached the pinnacle of what we can do together,” Odrick said. “I think we have a lot of potential with the type of continuity you really want to have as a team. A lot of guys are close not only on the field but off the field as well. That doesn’t happen often around the league, but we all like each other and I think we have a good camaraderie that can only get better next year.”
Now that Starks is onboard for the upcoming season, Odrick will get his wish.
