May 2015 - One Million Meal Packing Event presented by AARP
In football, winning or losing can come down to one play, one yard, one inch. In Florida, one-in-seven seniors live in poverty. The difference for those struggling can come down to one volunteer, one conversation, one hot meal. AARP Foundation and the Miami Dolphins have teamed up to help South Florida older adults meet their basic needs. By being a force for change on the most serious issues Americans 50+ face today—housing, hunger, income and isolation—and working with local volunteers and organizations, we can help reach more people, strengthen communities and help make resources go further for those struggling.
In 2015, with the help of over 4,000 volunteers, and in just 8 hours, the Miami Dolphins and AARP Foundation were able to pack mon were able to pack more than 1,070,000 meals for South Florida seniors.
This was the second year this event has been held, and we are looking forward to another successful event in May of 2016!

The Miami Dolphins Special Teams driven by Chevy partner with Miami Dade Parks along with AARP Florida in beautifying an underserved community park. The projects benefit residents of the local community including park’s afterschool care and summer programs. With over 250 volunteers beautifying the park, the Miami Dolphins Special Teams Dolphinize the afterschool care room by painting the entire room Aqua and Orange as well as providing Dolphin items to decorate the room. November - Salute to Service
The Miami Dolphins Special Teams driven by Chevy in conjunction with the NFL’s Salute to Service campaign like to honor those currently serving overseas by packing care packages to show our appreciation. We partner with many different organizations such as Publix, Bank of America, United Way and many more to ensure that we are able to send the appropriate number of items to each base.
With the large number of donations, we separate the day into two shifts. The morning of, we sort through the donations and classify them into specific categories. Once the sorting is completed, we then begin packing for the specific base’s wish list. We continue to pack until all of the donations are packaged and ready for shipment. There are many ways to get involved:
• Come out on TBD (date) from 9AM – 12PM OR 1PM – 4PM
• Start a collection at your work, school or within your network of friends
• Mail in a monetary donation
• Write letters to troops showing them your appreciation for protecting our freedom Community Service Academy – Spring Break (March) – Summer Months (7 weeks)
The Miami Dolphins Community Service Academy presented by AARP Foundation is a week-long “camp” like setting. The CSA is specifically for high school students to gain community service hours for graduation or for any potential scholarships they may need a specific number of community service hours to qualify for.
Each week is different. The participants meet at Sun Life Stadium where we then bus everyone to many different non-profits and charities throughout South Florida for the week and volunteer our services. An organization we always like to help out is Feeding South Florida where we help sort, package, and distribute the donated food in their warehouse. Another organization is Zoo Miami, which we assist in various capacities throughout their scenery, whether that be landscaping, cleaning out some of the animals habitat, and much more. Upon completion of our volunteering with the Zoo, the kids can then enjoy the Zoo for the remainder of the day.
